Gullah (also guallah creole ) is a creole language based on English.

It is spoken in the United States in the coastal regions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida mainly by African-Americans. Smaller groups of speakers there are in Detroit and New York. Overall, there were about 125,000 speakers in 1977, of which very few were monolingual. The term Gullah probably has its origins in the name of the people of the Gola, an ethnic group in Africa Liberia.

Are closely related to the African- Seminolischen the Black Seminoles. Linguistic influences consist of West African languages. As a written language usually serves the English, although a dictionary and its own orthography and grammar exist.

Gullah developed on the early rice plantations in South Carolina, probably at the beginning of the 18th century, when there was a large number of slaves that were brought from different countries in West Africa to America. In order to communicate with each other and with their English masters, the slaves Gullah developed from a mixture of English and several African languages. White could probably understand the language, at least.
