Gulmarg

Gulmarg is a wide valley and namesake of lying in his place in Baramula District of Jammu And Kashmir, India. The name Gulmarg means flower meadow.

The flat, about three kilometers long meadow valley is 52 km west of Srinagar in about 2700 m altitude in the Pir Panjal Range, a mountain chain that closes the Kashmir Valley to the southwest.

The village consists of a few buildings that are scattered over the valley, primarily small hotels, restaurants, hostels and mountain huts. There are the Gulmarg Gondola, a 5 km long gondola and two ski lifts near the valley station.

Gulmarg lives on still in the beginnings of tourism in the largely untapped mountains. In the summer of different tours can be made in the winter there is free skiing on mostly unprepared and unsupervised departures from the 4200 m high Mount Apharwat. The ski season starts here in mid-December and lasts until mid-May. As the looming over the Indus basin low pressure areas lose their precipitation as the first over of the Pir Panjal Range, snowfalls of up to 20 m per year are not uncommon.
