Guðmundur Sigurjónsson

Guðmundur Sigurjónsson ( born September 25, 1947 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic chess player.

Guðmundur Sigurjónsson received in 1970 awarded the title of International Master by FIDE in 1975, he became the second grandmaster Islands by Ólafsson. He won the Icelandic championship in 1965, 1968 and 1972. Between 1966 and 1978 he represented Iceland at all Chess Olympiads. Interzonal Rio de Janeiro in 1979 and the following candidates tournament he was Sekundant by Robert Hübner. Sigurjónsson was one of the first foreign player in the chess Bundesliga; he played in the first team of SG Porz and was with this in 1982 and 1984 German team champion.

Sigurjónsson is hardly schachlich active. The last -evaluated tournament game he played at the European Club Cup 1999. Afterwards, he only played 2003, the Reykjavik - Edda rapid chess tournament. His Elo rating is 2463 (as of May 2010).
