Gunar Kirchbach

Gunar Kirchbach ( born October 12, 1971 in Bad Saarow ) is a former German canoeist.

The canoe racers of KC Potsdam in 1989, still starting for the GDR, together with Andreas Dittmer Junior World Champion in a two - Canadians over 500 meters and second over 1000 meters. 1990 belonged Kirchbach as a substitute for the last World Cup squad in the GDR, in 1992 the first all-German Olympic squad after reunification. 1993 occupied Kirchbach and Dittmer in the World Cup third place over 500 meters, in 1994 they won together over 1000 meters the title. 1995 at the World Championships in Duisburg were the two both over 500 meters and 1000 meters above the bronze medal. At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta won Dittmer and Kirchbach over 1000 meters gold medal in front of the boats from Romania and Hungary. The day after they finished over 500 meters in fourth place with 0.4 seconds behind the bronze medal. 1997 Kirchbach entered the World Championship in Canada Dartmouth, together with Matthias Röder, the two won the title over 1000 meters.

Gunar Kirchbach was after his career coach at the national training center in Leipzig.
