Gunder Gundersen

Gunder Gundersen ( born September 12, 1930 in Asker, † 2 June 2005 in Oslo) was a Norwegian nordic combined.

Career

His first international success came at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival Gundersen 1952., Where he won the individual competition in the Nordic combined.

In the Norwegian Championships 1953 in Oslo, he won behind Simon Slåttvik and Per Gjelten the bronze medal in singles. A year later, at the Norwegian Championships 1954 in Strinda only he was beaten Sverre Stenersen and won the silver medal. In the same year Gundersen won the silver medal in the Nordic combined at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1954.

In the Lahti Ski Games, he won bronze in the 1955 Competition. Also in 1954 he succeeded previously. In the Norwegian Championships in 1955 Gundersen won silver again before it again in Mo i Rana won bronze two years later. After again in Oslo won silver at the Norwegian Championships in 1958, he went at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti at the start. There he won the bronze medal in the individual behind Paavo Korhonen and Sverre Stenersen.

In 1959 he was honored by another victory at Holmenkollen with the Holmenkollen medal.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley, he reached the 11th place in the individual competition of the combination. A short time later he reached the bronze medal behind Tormod Knutsen and Arne Larsen at the Norwegian Championships in Mjøndalen. A year later, in his last Norwegian Championships 1961 in Rælingen he won his first and only national title.

He has participated in his career but also as a ski jumper at the Four Hills Tournament.

Became known Gundersen following his playing career, especially with the introduction of so-called Gundersen method, a special startup mode in the Nordic combined, which was introduced in 1985. Previously, he was from 1974 to 1979 Chairman of the Committee combination with FIS and at the 1980 Winter Olympics Technical Director of Competition.
