Güneş (newspaper)

Güneş ( German sun) is a Turkish daily newspaper based in Istanbul.

Güneş was founded in 1982 by the Kozanoglu Cavusoglu Group, the newspaper was later purchased by Asil Nadir. From February 1997 Güneş was released by the Çukurova Group.

The daily circulation of the tabloid in July 2009 amounted to approximately 120,000 copies in February 2014 approximately 102,000 copies. The up -turning especially on Alevis newspaper based politically in the comment section and the weighting of their news selection at the secular Kemalist ideology of the Turkish state founder Ataturk.

The Turkish newspaper crisis resulted in Güneş 2009 layoffs. In settlement of tax liabilities of the Çukurova Group, the newspaper in 2012 to the State Fund TMSF (Turkish tasarruf Mevduatı Sigorta fonu ) was handed over to the Turkish government. In November 2013 Güneş was sold along with other media companies in the Turkmedya group of TMSF to the businessman Ethem sancak.
