Gunnar Heckscher

Gunnar Edvard Heckscher ( born July 8, 1909 in Djursholm; † 24 November 1987 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish political scientist and samlingspartiet, from 1961-1965, Chairman of the Moderate.

Gunnar Heckscher was the son of the economic historian Eli Filip Heckscher. He studied his father at Uppsala University, where he graduated in 1927 as a contestant philosophy. It was followed by 1932 and 1934, the philosophy philosophy licentiat doctor. Since 1933 he was a lecturer of Political Science at Uppsala; this position he held until 1941. Subsequently he moved to the same position at the University of Stockholm, where he worked until 1948. Between 1945 and 1954 he was rector from 1948 to 1958 and professor of political science at the Socialhögskolan, a hitherto independent College of Social Policy ( since 1977 part of the University of Stockholm ), and from 1958 to 1965 professor at the University of Stockholm.

Heckscher was from 1957 until his departure as party leader in 1965 a member of the Second Chamber of the Swedish Parliament. After his departure Heckscher held the post of ambassador in New Delhi (1965-1970) and Tokyo ( 1970-1975 ).
