Gunsho Ruijū

When Gunsho Ruijū (Japanese群 书 类 从, modern:群 书 类 従, dt " classified petition ", GR ) is probably the most important collection of Japanese historical sources.

Collection

We started the monumental collection that tries to capture all published after the official annals of history of art, from the blind Hanawa Hokiichi (塙 保 己 一, 1746-1821 ), with the support of the Bakufu.

The first series of the product of forty years of work appeared 1819. It is divided into 25 subject groups with the full texts of 1270 works. A modern print edition was published in 19 volumes from 1894 to 1912. Bibliographic opened the collection in Gunsho Kaidai (30 volumes), which appeared in 1953. The collection served the Japanese studies, Hermann Bohner as the basis of his translations.

A second series, edited by his son Hokiichis, Hanawa Tadatomi (塙 忠 宝) appeared from 1821. Entitled Zoku Gunsho Ruijū you are the texts of other 2103 title. As a further supplement Zoku Zoku two Gunsho Ruijū published. The first with 16 plants was 1903-4 printed in 5 volumes. The second appeared in 1906-9 and leads 304 sources in 16 volumes on.

Another source collection begun by Hanawa Tadatomi is the Dai- Nippon - Shiryo, which was published in 1901 by the Imperial University of Tokyo. Their purpose is to provide a documentation of the millennial history of 887-1867.
