Guru Josh

Guru Josh ( born June 6, 1964; actually Paul Walden ) is a British musician. He reached in the early 1990s with his single Infinity ( 1990s ... Time for the Guru ) Top 5 rankings in Germany, Austria, England and Switzerland. It lasted half a year in the German charts and is considered a classic of old school house music.

Career

Paul Walden is a trained dentist. He began his career as an entertainer and keyboard player in a nightclub under the pseudonym Syndrone. The success of his debut single infinity, the 14 weeks remained in the German Top 10, reaching number 9 in the German charts of the year was to a large extent, the saxophone of "Mad Mick " Weston owed, with whom he had written the piece. It was followed by another hit single, Whose Law ( Is It Anyway? ), Then lost music press and the public quickly, interest in his music. The eponymous album, Infinity, was consistently negative reviews, which particularly affected the lackluster cover versions of popcorn and Louie, Louie. As Walden then in an interview also supported the policy of the then reigning in the UK Conservative Party, he lost the support of the rave scene.

Under the name of Guru Josh, he released the following singles: Infinity, Freaky Dreamer, Holographic Dreams, Whose Law (all 1990) and Hallelujah ( 1991) ( Is It Anyway? ). The success of the first single he could not repeat it reached 10 countries in the first chart placement.

In 1991, he joined the then fledgling industry of multimedia production, where in collaboration with other artists, among others, the project Dr Devious and the Wisemen he pushed in 1992 ( best-known title: Cyber ​​Dream) and the computer-animated video series Dance In Cyberspace co-produced. Today he lives in Ibiza.

In 1996, a cover version of the classic Infinity by DJ Taucher appeared. In 2001, Mike Dragon posted another cover version.

Together with Snakebyte (Anders Nyman ) and DJ DazPerkz ( Darren Bailie ) founded the solo artist Guru Josh Guru Josh Project in 2007. Under the common name in 2008 Infinity was released in a new version every year. The remix got there the German DJ Klaas Gerling with additional vocals by Jan Löchel. This version had great success throughout Europe. It was conducted at the Belgian, Dutch, Danish and French singles chart No.1, it was also leader of the Czech airplay chart and the Euro Hot 100 In Germany it reached position 4 and persisted through 14 months in the charts. Thus, it was much longer than the original placed in 1990 (26 weeks).
