Gusset

A gusset is a piece of fabric that is inserted into a seam to give the wearer of the garment more comfort and freedom of movement. While previously gusset were used, for example in the forearm area of dresses, you can find them today except for socks, in the back of jackets, underwear and tights barely, since large incisions and stretch fabrics allow enough freedom of movement.

In the genital area

Gore be used in the genital area for the following reasons, with several can add:

  • As hygienic gusset ( Alt. step feed, cover, linen gusset or just gusset) he is most prevalent in women's underwear. But possibly intended to take the moisture escaping like normal vaginal discharge or depending on the size of the gusset small amounts of urine, feces, sweat or menstrual blood and allowed to dry through evaporation. Thus, skin irritation, fungus, and urinary tract infections are reduced. Lack of breathability (mostly by synthetic fiber or too tight clothing layers ) of the outer fabrics, however, can hinder the evaporation. For the gusset itself usually cotton is used and they are therefore often called cotton gusset. Alternatively, silk or microfiber similar feel to be used. Microfiber is here often provided with an antibacterial effect. Tissue thicknesses range from two layers of fabric to network structure. These are mostly undyed, bleached white or colored only on the outside. In case of insufficient function or absence of this gusset panty liner can be glued.
  • In order to improve the fit. When connecting the inner thigh of long leg panties that are knitted with a seamless tube. In the step of tights, to form the lower horizontal portion of the panty. Since they are thus not sewn onto a backing material, hygienic gusset are automatically breathable here.
  • To better cover the genital area, so often found in lace lingerie or swimwear.
  • When divided gusset (split crotch ) for easier toilet, in principle, the intervention of a man's briefs same. Occasionally found in corsetry with legs or body Tights ( Hosiery ).

Swimwear

The so-called gusset adoption before 1932 wrote that bathing suits for men and women alike had to be provided with a gusset to reveal less bare skin. The absorption of body exudates, was apparent not provided here. Zwickel ( and outer fabrics ) from increase in non-breathable materials when worn too long ( as underwear before bathing ) the risk of vaginal unphysiologischem. Made of cotton, give it here, in both cases some help, but are difficult and slow to dry when they are completely filled with water.

Tights

In knitting, fine and even in an otherwise seamless (mains) tights.

  • From the same material as the panties part of the tights, sometimes reinforced. Even wiping cloth like to receive more moisture.
  • Of cotton, silk or other breathable fibers to prevent infections that are favored by a low- air- vaginal climate. Also called hygiene gusset. As an inexpensive alternative with small holes or as a network. Whereby at last the moderate moisture absorption is to be criticized.
  • As dragons or saddle gusset is in the Po area larger.
  • As a comfort gusset (formerly body shape gusset) for large sizes. Here, the gusset runs in a V- shape, starting from the step up to the rear waistband.
  • For men like tights worked forward comfort gusset to make more room for the genitals to offer.
  • Than double comfort gusset for large sizes ( in this case the gusset extends continuously between the center seam to the waistband )
  • Combination of the above points. For example, comfort gusset nylon with extra hygienic gusset only in the genital area or with thin colored nylon gusset above the natural colored hygienic gusset.

Depending on the shape it is also called a wedge, pointed or saddle gusset.
