Gustaf Johan Billberg

Life and work

Although he was a lawyer, he was very interested in the natural sciences. That was him the reputation of being a dilettante worth. Added to this was the reputation as a conspirator because he stand for election Carl Peter Forsberg, the adopted son of his friend Carl Peter Thunberg, began at the Swedish Academy of Sciences.

In 1796 he married Margaret Ferelius. For the second time he married in 1801, namely Helena Maria Ehinger.

He worked after the death of Johan Wilhelm Palm Struchs to whose work Svensk Botanik on.

The genus Billbergia in the plant family Bromeliaceae ( Bromeliaceae ) was dedicated to him by Carl Peter Thunberg.
