Gustav August Munzer
Gustav August Munzer ( born January 9, 1887 in ( Föritz ) Oerlsdorf; † August 23, 1973 in Dusseldorf ) was a German architect. His most famous building is the Laboe naval memorial.
Life
Munzer studied from 1904 to 1907 at the Baugewerkschule in Coburg and found after a first job in the office of the architect Willroth in Flensburg. From 1908 to 1910 he was a collaborator of the architect Lauritz Petersen Thaysen in Tønder ( Tønder, Denmark). 1910 Munzer went to art school Dusseldorf, his teachers there was one Wilhelm Kreis. Although he still occupied at the School of Applied Arts until 1913 courses, he already made in 1911 as a freelance architect.
1915 Munzer married the daughter of a Commissioner of City Planning, from the marriage had three children. He was a member of the Deutscher Werkbund ( DWB) and the Association of German Architects ( BDA); In 1939, he was - well generally positive assessment mainly because of the Naval Monument - appointed professor (see Adjunct Professor ). He practiced his profession until about 1970, to be paid particular attention to the cheap housing for workers and employees; with this goal he laid out a number of buildings. Munzers extensive, from photos, postcards and plans of existing estate is located in Düsseldorf city archive.
