Gustav Ernst

Gustav Ernst ( born August 23, 1944 in Vienna) is an Austrian writer.

Life

Gustav Ernst grew up in Vienna. He studied philosophy, history and German, but moved before graduation to literature. From 1969 he worked as an editor and co-editor of the literary magazine wasps nest. In 1996 he co-founded the Austrian magazine colic, which he publishes jointly with Karin Fleischanderl. 1992 to 2004 he was chairman of the "script Vienna Forum ". Since 2001 he judged the texts of proverbs code Leondinger Youth Award for Sprachie and photography.

Gustav Ernst began in the late 1960s as a representative of a new literary realism, whose main concern was criticism of the crusted social conditions and changes. Ernst wrote combative prose and plays in a sometimes highly dramatic language. Since the early 1980s, dramatic works are the focus of his work; in addition to works for the theater, he also wrote screenplays for television dramas and feature films.

Since 2005, Gustav Ernst directs together with Karin Fleischanderl the Leondinger Academy of Letters. Together, they are also the founder of the Johann Beer Prize for Literature.

Gustav Ernst is a member of Graz Writers meeting. In addition to various author grants he received, inter alia, the 1979 prize of the Frankfurt Authors Foundation, 1982 Prize for the city of Vienna and in 2013 the City of Vienna Prize for Literature.
