Gustav Ipavec

Gustav Ipavec (also Ipavic; born August 15, 1831 in Šentjur pri Celju; † August 20, 1908 ) was a Slovenian composer.

Ipavec attended high school in Celje and then enrolled at the medical-surgical school in Graz. Like his brothers Alojz and Benjamin Ipavec he studied at the Vienna University of Medicine and received his PhD in 1858. After graduating, he took over his father's practice in Šentjur, where he also served for thirty years as mayor.

In addition to simple melodic songs that enjoyed great popularity, Ipavec composed some sixty works for men's and mixed choir, as well as marches and dances. His son Josip Ipavec to pursue a career as a composer and physicians.
