Gustav Jaenecke

Gustav " Justav " Jaenecke ( May 22nd, 1908 in Charlottenburg, † 30 May 1985 in Bonn ) was a German ice hockey and tennis player.

Hockey

From 1923 to 1944 he played for the Berlin Ice Club, where he also in the wargame community BSchC with the SC Brandenburg Berlin was active in 1944. The trained banker was one of the first hockey stars in Germany and began his career in 1915 in the offspring of BSchC. In 1925 he went as a reservist on the first team of the Ice Skating Club. It was not until 1927, however, after a very good performance at the European Championships in Vienna, a regular player. Between 1926 and 1937 he was with Berlin German champions nine times and won twice (1926 and 1928) the Spengler Cup. In 1944, he won his tenth championship with the KSG Berliner SC / SC Brandenburg. While he played mainly as a left winger, but was also used as a defender and often remained over the full season on the ice. Because of his skills, he was at this time as one of the best players in Europe, which was also recognized by the Canadians.

After the Second World War he moved in 1946 to Garmisch- Partenkirchen and joined the Ocean's SC Riessersee. With this he won in 1947, 1948 and 1950 his championship 11-13, so that he is still the hockey player with the highest German league titles today. He also coached the junior of the SC Riessersee. In 1951 he ended his active career.

In the national team he played from 1928 to 1939 and achieved during this time a quarter of all gates. He won the European Championship with Germany twice, and several medals at the World Championships and the bronze medal at the 1932 Olympics in Lake Placid.

Tennis

In addition to his hockey career, he also played tennis for the BSchC. In 1932 he was German tennis champion and came to five appearances in the Davis Cup team ( opponents: Italy, Japan, Egypt). At times, he also played as a doubles partner of the triple Wimbledon finalist Gottfried von Cramm, with whom he was friends. Its first wife Lisa, his girlfriend in 1937, he married in 1939. Were divorced in 1947. Due to a knee injury suffered in ice hockey, he had to prematurely end his tennis career.

After the sports career

After ending his sports career he was Director casino in Bad Neuenahr. There he met his second wife. In 1970 he initiated in Berlin a Foundation for the skate club which he was chairman. In 1975, he became the main shareholder of the casino in Berlin Europa Center. The casino company still bears his name.

Trivia

Jaenecke was never a member of the Nazi party and was not drafted into the army because he was regarded as Managing Director of its shoe factory as indispensable. The factory was destroyed during the war and later transferred to public ownership, as they lay in the eastern part of Berlin.
