Gustav Metzger

Gustav Metzger ( born April 10, 1926 in Nuremberg, Germany) is a German artist ( painting, photography, installations, performances, actions, texts, manifestos, political actions).

Life

Gustav Metzger was born as the son of Orthodox Jews and survived the Holocaust by a bailout of the Refugee Children Movement in England.

He studied art at the Cambridge School of Art in London. He was also an active member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Work

Gustav Metzger is a member of performance art. In his work he focuses on the destructive potential of the 20th century, especially he criticizes the capitalist system and the art industry. He is considered the inventor of the "Auto Creative Art ", "Auto Destructive Art", " kinetic painting" and " Historic Photographs ".

Trivia

Pete Townshend, a student butcher at Ealing Art College, founded the destruction of the English band The Who with Metzger's concept of Auto-Destructive Art.
