Gustav Mezey

Gustav Mezey, Gustav Masirevits ( born September 10, 1899 in Sombor, † 1981) was an Austrian painter.

Life

After studying art in Budapest and at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna, he turned to commercial art and developed his style in the art of large-scale figural and portrait painting using the airbrush emerging technology. In the first golden age of cinematography, from 1925 until the beginning of the sound era in 1930, Mezey came forward with poster designs, drawing attention to him. His often bold color choice, made his posters extravagant and effective advertising. Until 1960 he worked for UFA, Sascha, Terra, Tobis, MGM, Rank. Although Mezey also in Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Munich, Belgrade and Trieste worked, Vienna remained his preferred place of work. Offers by Samuel Mayer ( MGM), to move to Hollywood, he refuses. Until recently, working in Vienna, Mezey died at the age of 82 years the consequences of an injury that he incurred during a fall from a ladder while working on a large-scale factory.

Work

Mezey is considered one of the pioneers of large-scale exterior front - Print and painting the film industry. Exhibitions of his work took place on three continents.
