Gustav Neidlinger

Gustav Neidlinger ( born March 21, 1910 in Mainz, † 26 December 1991 in Bad Ems ) was a German singer (bass - baritone).

Work

It seems that Richard Wagner had the role of Alberich in the " Ring des Nibelungen" written especially for him ( Alberich is referred to in the title of the tetralogy " Nibelung ". ) Many times Neidlinger sung this game on stage and record. Similar effects have his interpretations of the Flying Dutchman, Klingsor in Parsifal, Pizarro in Fidelio and Iago in Otello.

But not only on demonic games and villains roles he specialized. Another role was the pompous, unintentionally funny Mayor van bed in Lortzings Zar und Zimmermann, his wise old Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger, Falstaff in Verdi's opera of the same or the Colonel Olle village in Millöckers The Beggar Student ( "Oh, I've got it as it is on the shoulder kissed ... ").

The training to become a singer, he was at the Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main, 1931, he made his debut at the Stadttheater in Mainz, where he worked until 1934. At the Hamburg State Opera, he worked from 1935 to 1950. From 1950 he was a member of the ensemble of the Staatsoper Stuttgart, since 1977 honorary member. Since 1956 he was also a member of the Vienna State Opera. He has appeared at all the leading opera houses, as in Paris, Milan, London, Edinburgh, New York. At the Bayreuth Festival, he worked in fifteen seasons with as Alberich, as well as Telramund ( Lohengrin ), Kurvenal ( Tristan and Isolde ) and Klingsor ( Parsifal ), in Die Meistersinger, he gave the shoemaker poet Hans Sachs and the master baker Kothner, but also took the cameo role of the night watchman.
