Gustav Nyquist

Gustav Nyquist ( born September 1, 1989 in Halmstad ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player. He currently plays for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League ( NHL). Nyquist was selected by Detroit at position 121 in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2008. In parallel, he comes for their farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League ( AHL ) are used.

Career

Youth

In his home Nyquist played for Malmö Redhawks. In 2006, he stood at the TV spit, a traditional, national youth tournament in Sweden with a maximum age limit for players of 16 years, in the selection of Landskap Skane. His team took second place to Gothenburg.

After Nyquist moved to study in the United States and played three seasons on the Maine Black Bears, the team of the University of Maine, from the Hockey East Association in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA). In all three seasons, he was the best scorer of his team. In the 2009/10 season he scored even the most points scorer in the NCAA. After his junior time he left the Black Bears and signed on 25 March 2011 an Entry Level Contract with two -year term at the Detroit Red Wings. At the University of Maine Nyquist remains as a major hockey player in memory, because he belonged in 2010 for its university past finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which then finally got Blake Geoffrion this year.

Detroit Red Wings

His first AHL Game of Nyquist on 25 March 2011 for the farm team of the Red Wings, Grand Rapids Griffins, against the Texas Stars. In just his second AHL game on March 26, 2011 again against the Texas Stars, he scored his first AHL goal after a pass from Jamie Tardif.

His first game in the NHL Nyquist completed on 1 November 2011 in a match the Red Wings against the Minnesota Wild. On March 26, 2012, he scored his first NHL goal in his career after a pass from Pavel Datsyuk against Steve Mason of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

His debut in the NHL play-offs were Nyquist few days later on 13 April 2012 against the Nashville Predators. Nyquist was recalled from Grand Rapids this because the center forward of the Red Wings, Darren Helm, had contracted in the first game by a section through the blade of his opponent Alexander Radulow a gaping wound on his right forearm, which drew an operation by itself and for helmet meant the end of the season.

In the second game of the NHL play-offs in 2013 Nyquist scored the game-winning overtime goal against the Anaheim Ducks, whereby the balance of the series was reached at 1-1. Nyquist scored the first goal in the third game of the semifinal series in 2013 in the Western Conference against the Chicago Blackhawks.

On August 20, 2013, the Detroit Red Wings signed with Nyquist a two year contract with a base salary of $ 1.9 million. On February 2, 2014 Nyquist scored his first hat trick in the NHL in a game against the Washington Capitals.
