Gustav Strube

Gustav Strube ( born March 3 1867 in Ballenstedt, † February 2nd 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland ) was an American composer of German origin.

Life

Strube studied at the Conservatory of Leipzig with Adolph Brodsky. From 1891 to 1913 he was first violinist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the music festivals of Worester / Colorado. After that, he was a violin teacher at the conservatory of Baltimore, which he also directed 1916-1946 and also 1916-1930 head of the municipal symphony orchestra.

He composed two operas, two symphonies, two symphonic poems ( longing and the Harz Mountains ), three overtures, an orchestral rhapsody, two violin concertos, two string quartets, a woodwind quintet and a piano trio.
