Gustav Wallis

Gustav Wallis ( born May 1, 1830 in Lüneburg, † July 20, 1878 in Cuenca, Ecuador ) was a German botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Wallis ".

Life

Gustav Wallis was born deaf mute, but learned to speak and even foreign languages. He went in 1860 on behalf of the Brussels Art gardener Jean Jules Linden to South America to import new plants to Europe. He spent eight years in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panama and Costa Rica. In 1868, he traveled to the Philippines. From 1870 to 1874 Gustav Wallis worked for the London-based company Veitch and Sons. He has won several awards for his work. He held several times in Hamburg, where he lectured to members of the association for science entertainment. He returned to South America, where he died in Cuenca malaria.

Gustav Wallis has managed more than 1,000 new species of plants to Europe.
