Gustave Brion

Gustave Adolphe Brion (* November 4, 1824 in Rothau in Alsace, † November 6, 1877 in Paris) was a French painter of realism.

Life

Gustave Brion, a pupil of G. Guérin, mainly created paintings that have the daily life in the country on the topic. The richness of his compositions, the fresh paint and the simple truth of his characters soon raised him one of the best genre painters of France. He also worked as an illustrator for the works of Victor Hugo, of which he was very much appreciated (eg Les Misérables ).

Brion was the son of a nephew of Friederike Brion and father of the architect Jacques Albert Brion.
