Gusterath

Gusterath ( Moselle Franconian: Göstert ) is a municipality and a nationally recognized tourist destination in the district of Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Ruwer, which has its administrative headquarters in Waldrach.

Geography

Gusterath is in the middle Ruwertal near Trier.

History

Farmsteads existed since Roman times, as proven by finds Roman building debris in the hallway parts Lindenkreuz and Im Schiffelland. The town was first mentioned as Gozprethrode in a document from the year 1236 in connection with the donation of domination and exploitation rights over the church to Gusterath to the convent of St. Martin in the mountains. In 1246 the location of the Ruwer and now deserted village Nivenderoth is called. A church that was in disrepair in 1670 was in 1797 replaced by a new building and 1881/82 restored.

The local council in Gusterath consists of 16 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

Blazon: Heraldic divided, split down, up in gold is a growing red lion, red bar below the front cross in silver, behind golden shoe in blue.

Coat of Reason: The red lion in gold and blue are the coat of arms of William of Helphenstein removed. The family of Helphenstein had the right of patronage over the place. 1236 confirmed Archbishop of Trier Theodoric the monastery of St. Martin in the mountains of Trier possession of the patronage law. This certificate is affixed the seal of Helphenstein. The Kurtrierer cross points to the centuries- long membership of the place to the Electorate of Trier. The shoe symbolizes the economic importance of the footwear industry ( Romika ) the last 50 years for the community.

Economy

In Gusterath is the commercial area Gusterath Valley. There was formerly shoe production Romika, which represented a large proportion of employment in the room Ruwertal up in the 1980s.
