The Gutenburg

Called The Castle Gutenburg, even Gutenberg, Guttenberg, Next Home, Weithersheim, is a ruined hill fort above the local church Gutenberg district of Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland- Palatinate.

History

The castle was first mentioned in 1213 as " castro Next Home ". 1334 the Counts of Sponheim ( Front county) bought the castle, which has since been renamed Gutenburg. After this purchase was a significant transition. After the extinction of Sponheim ( Kreuznacher line † 1414; Starkenburger line † 1437), the castle became the vordersponheimischen common men (mainly Margraviate of Baden and the Palatinate ). The castle has lost over time in importance, was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and fell into disrepair. In the view of the Thesaurus philopoliticus by Daniel Meisner it is already shown as a ruin. The ruin is now privately owned.

The castle had an inner castle was completely surrounded by a ring kennel facility, protected by a wall with towers and a moat. The ruin is still considerable remains of walls.
