Guttenberg is a city in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. In the 2010 census 11,176 inhabitants were registered. With a calculated population density of more than 22,000 people per square kilometer, based on the urban land area Guttenberg is the most densely populated community in the United States.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau Guttenberg has a total area of 0.6 km ², of which 0.5 km ² of land and 0.1 km ² ( 16.67 %) is water. The town consists of a narrow strip just four blocks along the Hudson River from Manhattan. In the southwest Guttenberg is adjacent to West New York, otherwise in North Bergen.

Several large blocks of flats as the Galaxy Towers on the small urban area provide the extraordinarily high population density.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there are 10,807 people, 4,493 households, and 2,619 families residing in the city. This corresponds to a population density of 21,961.1 people per square kilometer, the highest in North America. 64.98 % of the population are White, 3.81% African American, 0.38 % Native American, 7.30 % Asian, 0.01 % Pacific Islander, 16.42 % from other races, and 7.10% mixed race. 54.33 % are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 4,493 households 27.8 % have children under 18 years. 40.3 % are married couples living together, 13.0 % are single mothers, 41.7 % are non-families, 35.1% consist of single-person households and 10.0% in people older than 65, the average household size is 2, 38, the average family size is 3.13.

21.2 % of the population are under 18 years old, 8.7 % from 18 to 24, 36.9 % from 25 to 44, 21.4% between 45 and 64, 11.8% older than 65 is the average age 36 years. The ratio of women to men is 100:92,9, for people older than 18 years, the ratio 100:90,6.

The median household income is $ 44,515, and the median income for a family $ 47,440. Males have a median income of $ 38,628, women $ 33,154.
