Guugu Yimithirr people

The Guugu Yimidhirr are a tribe of Aborigines from Australia who speaks the language of the same name. There are several hundred speakers, most of whom live in Hopevale, Wujal Wujal and Cooktown on the Cape York Peninsula in northern Queensland.

On the Guugu Yimidhirr is for example the word " kangaroo " back, which in their language " gangurru " ( / ɡaŋʊrʊ / ) is called.

In addition to their own language, they are mainly known for their special understanding of space, which has been studied among others by Stephen C. Levinson ( eg in Article Relativity in spatial conception to its description ). So there is no vocabulary for directional information relative to the user (left and right ), but only directions (corresponding to the north, south, east, west ).
