Guy Drut

Guy Drut ( born December 6, 1950 in Oignies ) is a French Olympic champion in athletics and politicians.

Drut was one of the world's best hurdler in the 1970s. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he won the 110m hurdles silver medal behind Rodney Milburn from the U.S.. The European Champion in 1974 then won at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, the gold medal.

From 1974 to 1976, he was three times by the sports newspaper L' Équipe France's Sportsman of the Year ( " champion of champions" ) selected.

From 1996 to 2005 Guy Drut was a member of the IOC. In that year, a French court sentenced him to a suspended prison sentence to probation of 15 months, because he had accepted money for the representation of political interests. As a result, suspended him the IOC. In a controversial action President Jacques Chirac him amnesty in 2006.

Policy

After his playing career dedicated Drut politically and served as youth and sports minister in the Conservative government of Alain Juppé from 1995 to 1997. In 2002 he was elected as a deputy of the Union pour un mouvement populaire in the Seine -et -Marne in the National Assembly and belonged to the Parliament until 2007. He was succeeded as deputy Franck Riester.
