Works

Many of Kay's works are characterized by a combination of fantasy elements and historical details of what he prefers as a narrative technique. His work on Late Antiquity ( Sarantine Mosaic ), the European Middle Ages ( Lions of Al- Rassan and Last Light of the Sun) or the Renaissance period ( Tigana ) are content oriented. The novels Sailing to Sarantium, Lord of Emperors, Lions of Al- Rassan and Last Light of the Sun play in the same fictional world in which after the fall of the Empire of Rhodia's ( Roman Empire ) created several successor kingdoms and the main religions of Jad (Christianity) and Ashar (Islam) are. Whether this also applies to the novels Under Heaven and River of Stars, fictionalized version of China in the Tang and Song period, is unclear.
