Guy Green (judge)

Guy Green ( born July 26, 1937 in Launceston, Tasmania ) was from 1995 to 2003 governor of the Australian state of Tasmania, and then a short time Governor-General of Australia. Green was beaten in 1982 knighted.

Guy Green is a lawyer. He was Magistrate from 1971 to 1973 and from 1973 to 2003 he was chief judge of the Supreme Court of Tasmania. He also worked at the University of Tasmania and served there before his appointment as governor as chancellor. He was also Chancellor of the Australian section of the Hospitaller Order.

In 1995 he was appointed as the first native Tasmanians for governor of the state. In October 2003, Green retired and was replaced by Richard Butler. Since then, he holds several honorary positions, he is committed to, for example, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.

After Peter Hollingworth resigned on 25 May 2003 as part of the cover-up allegations of child abuse by priests, Green was temporarily Administrator of the Office of the Governor General of Australia. He held this position until August 11, 2003, when the Governor of Western Australia, Michael Jeffery has been appointed as the new Governor-General.
