Guy Kelly

Edgar " Guy " Kelly ( born November 22, 1906 in Scotlandville, Louisiana, † February 24, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois) was an American hot jazz musician (trumpet, cornet, vocals).

Life and work

Guy Kelly began his career as a musician in the band of banjo player Toots Johnson in Baton Rouge, before he moved to New Orleans, where he worked with Papa Celestin in 1927/28. After touring with Kid Howard Boyd Atkins and he remained in 1930 in Chicago, where he worked in the years that followed, inter alia, with Cassino Simpson, Erskine Tate, Dave Peyton, Tiny Parham, Carroll Dickerson, Jimmie Noone ( The Blues Jumped a Rabbit, 1936 ), Half Pint Jaxon and Albert Ammons played. Kelly was involved in the field of Jazz 1928-1936 at six recording sessions, except those mentioned, also with Art Tatum.
