Guy Severin

Gai Sewerin Ilyich (Russian Гай Ильич Северин, English transcription: Guy Ilyich Severin, born July 24, 1926 in Tschudowo; † February 7, 2008 in Moscow), was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director General of NPP Zvezda.

Life

Sewerin studied at the University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in Moscow. As early as 1947 he worked and conducted research at the Mikhail Gromov - College for flight research. He drew largely responsible for the development of space suits and rescue systems, especially for the Vostok class.

Since 1964 Sewerin was chief designer, and later the same director general of the NPP Zvezda in Tomilino. In this position he remained until in post-Soviet time. He and his team continued their work for the Voskhod and Soyuz ships continued successfully.

Sewerin also taught as a professor, was the author of several publications on space suits and was a member of the International Academy of Astronautics.

It was also an avid skier and could be twice champion of the USSR in Alpine skiing. A Russian ski club is named after Sewerin. In a skiing accident, he broke both legs, as a result he died. Sewerin left behind a widow and two children.
