Guy U. Hardy

Guy Urban Hardy ( born April 4, 1872 in Abingdon, Knox County, Illinois, † January 26, 1947 in Cañon City, Colorado ) was an American politician. Between 1919 and 1933 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Colorado in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Guy Hardy attended the public schools of his home and then the Albion Normal College in Albion. Later he studied at Transylvania University in Lexington (Kentucky). Between 1890 and 1893 he worked as a teacher in Illinois and Florida. In 1894 he moved to Cañon City, Colorado, where he edited two newspapers from 1895.

Between 1900 and 1904, Hardy was postmaster in Cañon City and in the years 1918 and 1919 he was president of the Association of American Newspaper Publishers ( National Editorial Association). Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In 1918 he was chosen as their candidate in the third district of Colorado in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he entered on March 4, 1919, the successor of Edward Keating of the Democratic Party. After he was confirmed in the following six congressional elections each in its mandate, Hardy was able to complete in 1933 seven legislative sessions in Congress until March 3.

In 1932 he was defeated by Democrat John Andrew Martin, who favor the Democrats could win this election in the then national trend. After the end of his time in Congress Hardy revitalized his work as a publisher in Cañon City. In this city he has also died in January 1947.
