Gwangbokjeol

Gwangbokjeol is a national holiday which takes place annually in North and South Korea to commemorate the independence of Japan on 15 August 1945. Previously, both countries were part of the Japanese Empire under the name Chosen province. Also is celebrated by both countries this holiday on August 15, although Japan had at least de facto in the south to 12 September 1945 and de jure until the entry into force of the Treaty of San Francisco on April 28, 1952, the administrative authority for the whole of Korea.

In South Korea, also the beginnings of the Republic in 1948 is commemorated on this day.
