History

From a long tradition - in Dankersen, a village with about 5160 inhabitants (now part of the town of Minden ) Handball is played since 1924 - the TSV GWD Minden has become one of the most famous clubs in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The club was founded on 31 May 1924 at that time under the name TV " oak " Dankersen DT. After the Second World War, the club launched a fresh start under the new name TSV Green-White Dankersen ( GWD ). Since the name " Oak " was not allowed to continue in the new club TSV name was " Green-White Dankersen " elected on April 6, 1946 during a Monthly Meeting. In the season of 1967, however, the TSV after three runner-up for the first time, also to win the final game and to be German field handball champion, the first German league title in club history. In 1984 there was a new change of name. The name was changed in TSV GWD Minden, because you thereby hoped that a greater interest of sponsors.

In Minden Handball Bundesliga is played since the founding of the Handball - Bundesliga in 1966, among others, the successful coach Erich Klose. For the first time had to GWD in 1981 relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga, but a year later GWD was again first division. A subsequent descent into the second league took place in the 1985/86 season. Many years GWD played only in the second league. In 1995 GWD Minden succeeded then to rise again in the 1st Bundesliga, where they were represented until the end of season 2009/10. After the descent Minden succeeded in the following season 2010/11, the runner-up in the North Season of the second handball league. In the subsequent relegation to the rise of one failed because of the runners- Südstaffel TV 05 /07 mountain hut. A year later, one was in the first season of single-track 2nd Bundesliga champion in 2012 and rose again in the first league.

Intermezzo in Hanover

After problems with the compilation of the budget for the 2004/2005 season, it was agreed with the operators of TUI Arena in Hannover (then Preussag Arena) that GWD Minden moved half of its league matches of the domestic Kampa-Halle in Minden to Hanover. In return, the TUI Arena paid for a large part of the budget. Already in the preseason Minden had discharged their top games in Hanover.

2004, the Bundesliga team of TSV GWD Minden was officially renamed in GWD Minden -Hannover. All other teams played the GWD broader than TSV GWD Minden. However, the Games of GWD Minden -Hannover came mostly at low interest of the Hanoverian audience.

In September 2005, there were disputes between the management of GWD Minden -Hannover and the owner of the TUI Arena, Günter Papenburg. Papenburg stopped the payments to GWD Minden- Hannover, because he accused the Mindenern not to use his money for a competitive team. Then GWD Minden terminated the contract with the arena and again denies any games in Minden. In addition, the suffix " Hannover " has been deleted, so that the first team again GWD Minden is now called, while the TSV is found only in the name of the parent association.
