Gwembe
Gwembe is a place above the slope to the Kariba Dam in the Southern Province in Zambia. It is located 1,216 meters above sea level and is the seat of the administration of the eponymous district with 34,133 inhabitants ( 2000 census ). The town is located 50 kilometers south of Monze in a small reservoir.
Economy
How Siavonga, Sinazongwe, Binga, Siabuwa Gwembe is a place for relocated Tonga. They now live on the heights, where the soils are more barren than the valley floor, where they deposited lived before the flooding of the Kariba Dam in the Sambesiauen where high vertical rock faces all contact with the outside world made almost impossible. It is operated on a simple level in semi-arid area subsistence farming. The proportion of market sales is limited to the acute need for cash. The migration is high. The houses are made of mud and covered with grass. There are in the district outside the city Gwembe no power supply. Drinking water comes from rivers, lakes or shallow wells and is of poor quality. Some development projects have spread wickerwork of palm leaves, which are sold to Europe.

At Kariba there Safari tourism, including hunting.
Infrastructure
The paved road to Monze is located about 30 kilometers away. There is an unpaved, 1,000 -meter-long airstrip, hospital and primary schools. The place is connected to the national power grid.
Social
The dominant tribe are the Tonga.
