Gwilym Lloyd George, 1st Viscount Tenby

Gwilym Lloyd George of Dwyfor, 1st Viscount Tenby ( born December 4, 1894 in Criccieth, Wales, † February 14, 1967 ) was a British politician of the Liberal Party.

Biography

After visiting the Eastbourne College studied Lloyd George, the second son of the last Liberal Prime Minister David Lloyd George, at Jesus College, University of Cambridge. Subsequently, he did his military service in the British Army and was last promoted to Major.

His political career began Lloyd George in 1922 when he was first elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party for Members in the House of Commons and in this until 1924, the constituency represented Pembrokeshire. In 1929 he was again elected to represent the electoral district of Pembrokeshire from the House and belonged to this until 1950.

In 1931, he was the first time for a short time Parliamentary State Secretary at the Board of Trade; he held this office again from 1939 until 1941. Subsequently, he was 1941-1942 Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Food. After that he was appointed by Prime Minister Winston Churchill as Minister of gasoline and other fuels for the first time to the Cabinet and was at this until 1945.

Lloyd George was in 1951 again elected as a Liberal -Conservative in the House of Commons and represented now until 1957 the constituency of Newcastle upon Tyne North. In 1951 he was appointed as Minister of Food also by Prime Minister Churchill to the Cabinet again. Following a cabinet reshuffle in 1954 he not only Interior Minister ( Home Secretary ), but also Minister for Wales in the Cabinet Churchill. These functions he has also served in the government of Churchill's successor Anthony Eden until 1957.

After retiring from the House, he was charged in 1957 with the title Viscount Tenby, of Bulford in the County of Pembroke, in the hereditary nobility. He thus belonged to until his death in the House of Lords. After his death his eldest son, David Title heritage.

His younger sister Lady Megan Lloyd George of Dwyfor - was also a longtime member of Parliament for the Liberal Party and the Labour Party.
