GWR Firefly Class

The class was a series of Fire Fly broad gauge steam locomotives with the wheel arrangement 1A1 for express trains of the Great Western Railway.

The Firefly was the first designed by Sir Daniel Gooch steam locomotive class for the Great Western Railway. It was first built in 1840 along the lines of proven, supplied by Stephenson GWR Star class. As a result, 61 more machines of this type were manufactured. In comparison tests, the associated Ixion this series showed greater speeds capable than their standard gauge competitors.

A full-size replica of the Firefly was situated in the Didcot Railway Centre in 2005.
