Gwyddno Garanhir

Gwyddno Garanhir [' qwiðno ga'ranhir ] (" Gwyddno long leg / leg crane "), even Gwyddneu Garanhir, is a legendary figure from Welsh mythology.

Mythology

Gwyddno is the ruler of the now submerged coastal land Cantre'r Gwaelod in the North West of Wales (now Cardigan Bay). Its headquarters Caer Wyddno called in the northwest of Aberystwyth ( Ceredigion County ). As the guardian of the flood gates that protect the country against the tide, one day drunk neglected his duty, it is flooded.

In the story time y Kavas Kulhwch Olwen ("How Kulhwch Olwen has won " ) is Gwyddno the owner of an inexhaustible Esskorbes. This basket is referred to in the tradition as Tri Thlws ar Ynys Prydain ddeg ( " one of the Thirteen Treasures of the Island of Britain "). The giant Ysbaddaden demands of King Arthur and Kulhwch as one of the tasks in order to win his daughter Olwen, to rob this basket.

In another narration (Hanes Taliesin - "The story Taliesin " ) is Gwyddnos son Elffin on the shore in a weir the exposed by the witch Ceridwen little Gwion Bach, who later became famous poet Taliesin.
