Gyeongsang

Gyeongsang -do is the name of a former province in southeastern Korea. Their capital city was Daegu.

The province was created in the time of the Goryeo Dynasty in 1314 and received its name, which was contracted from the city name Gyeongju and Sangju. She was one of eight provinces in the Korean Joseon Dynasty.

In 1896 it was divided into the present provinces of South Korea Gyeongsangbuk -do and Gyeongsangnam -do.

The region is still known as a stronghold of political conservatives, hence the Saenuri party.
