Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan

Gymnastics och idrottshögskolan ( German: Gym and Sports University ), often abbreviated to GIH, is a Swedish university in Stockholm. The facility specializes in sports science.

Background

At the instigation of Pehr Henrik Ling, the educational institution was founded in 1813 under the name Kungliga Gymnastiska Centralinstitutet and soon became the center of the Swedish sports movement. Stand initially gymnastics at the center, the university at which already from the 1860s women studied, over time increasingly more sports opened. As a result, they changed their name in 1966 and was the current designation. In 1992, she was merged with the Lärarhögskolan Stockholm and then was called to 2005 Idrottshögskolan i Stockholm.
