Győr County
County Raab ( German also Raaber County; Vármegye Győr Hungarian, Slovak RABSKA župa / stolica or Rábsky county, Latin comitatus Jauriensis ) was a historic administrative unit ( county / county) in the Kingdom of Hungary.
Location
It was for the most part south of the Danube around the city Raab ( Győr Hungarian ) and was located mostly in present-day Hungary, only a small portion north of the Danube to the place Baloň lay in today's Slovakia.
The county bordered on the north by the county Pressburg ( Pozsony ) in the north- east by the county Komárom ( Komárom ), to the south and southeast of the county Veszprém ( Veszprém ), in the southwest of the county of Sopron ( Sopron ) and on the northwest by the county Wiesel castle ( Moson ).
1907, it had 134 154 inhabitants living on an area of 1,534 km ².
Administrative headquarters
The seat of government was in Győr ( Raab German ).
History
County Raab emerged at the end of the 10th century as one of the first of the Kingdom of Hungary. In 1541 it was conquered by the Ottomans to 1598 it was recaptured by the Habsburgs.
In 1918 a small part of the territory north of the Danube to the newly created Czechoslovakia ( by the Treaty of Trianon in 1920 under international law, confirmed ), most of the south of the Danube remained in Hungary, and together with the county Wiesel castle and a small part of the former county Pressburg the Győr- Moson- Pozsony.
After the Second World War, the Győr- Moson- Pozsony with the Sopron County ( Sopron ) was pooled for Győr- Sopron, this was eventually renamed in 1990 in Győr- Moson -Sopron.
The part of the county north of the Danube was the county slammed Komárom (Slovak Komárňanská župa ) after the founding of Czechoslovakia, in 1923 it came to the county Pressburg, this was then completely dissolved in 1928. Today, the land belongs to the Trnava Region ( Trnavský kraj ).
