György Jakubinyi

György Miklós Jakubinyi ( born February 13, 1946 in Sighetu Marmaţiei ) is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Alba Iulia in Romania and Apostolic Administrator of the Armenian Ordinariate Romania.

Life

Jakubinyi was ordained priest on 13 April 1969. He studied Catholic theology among others in Augsburg ( from 1970) in Rome. From 1972 to 1992 he was a lecturer at the School of Theology in Alba Iulia.

Since 29 April 1990 he is Titular Bishop of Aquae Regiae and Auxiliary Bishop of Alba Iulia. On 8 April 1994, Pope John Paul II appointed him archbishop. He leads an archdiocese with 540,000 Catholics ( including 95 % Hungary) and since 1991 has been the Apostolic Administrator of the Armenian Catholic Ordinariate of Romania.

Jakubinyi speaks of his Hungarian mother tongue numerous foreign languages ​​fluently, including Romanian, German, Italian, Russian, Polish, English and Esperanto. On the two European special synods in the Vatican in the years 1991 and 1999 Jakubinyi sat down for Esperanto as a language of the Church.

Jakubinyi also participated in the daily program of German Catholics in the years 1994, 1998 and 2000.
