György Schöpflin

György Schöpflin (* November 24, 1939 in Budapest) is a Hungarian politician of the Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Union, author and political analyst.

Life

Schöpflin lived from 1950 to 2004 in England. After completing his studies at Glasgow University, he completed a master's program at the College of Europe in Bruges. From 1963 to 1967 he worked for Chatham House, London; after that he worked for the BBC until 1976. Schöpflin worked as a university lecturer at University College London since 1976, where he taught at the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies as a university teacher and Jean Monnet expert since 1998. Since 2004 Schöpflin deputy in the European Parliament. As an author he has written several books about the political situation in Eastern Europe. In March 2010 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Tallinn.
