Gyroball

The Gyroball is a throwing technique a pitcher in baseball. He is thrown with a spin, its rotational axis in the direction of flight, which virtually negates the Magnus effect. The Gyroball is considered one of the most unusual throws in baseball.

Background

Beginning of the new millennium speculated two Japanese scientist named Ryutaro Himeno and Kazushi Tezuka that a baseball could be thrown in such that the rotational axis of the twist runs exactly in the direction of flight, ie like a bullet or like a football flies. The Gyroball has a high speed, but lowers itself neither as a fastball (which has a slight Rückwärtdrall ) nor like a curveball or a slider (each Vorwärts-/Seitwärtsdrall ). Video analysis showed that several Japanese pitcher threw the Gyroball unconsciously ( Shunsuke Watanabe of the Chiba Lotte Marines thought that he used a curveball ), but so far exist in professional sports little pitcher that use the Gyroball aware.
