Gyula Kluger

Gyula Kluger [ ɟulɒ kluɡɛr ] ( born January 15, 1914 in Sátoraljaújhely, † September 23, 1994 in Budapest) was a Hungarian chess player.

Kluger was a nephew of the Hungarian International Master Dr. István Fazekas. So he came at an early age to play chess. In 1935, he reached in Tataóváros seventh place in the championship of Hungary and was awarded separately Hungarian Champion title. Between 1937 and 1946 no official games played by him are known.

From 1946 he participated again at the Hungarian Championships and also took part in international tournaments. In 1953 he became vice-champion of Hungary. 1954 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master. 1956/57, he won the Challenger tournament in Hastings. 1954 and 1960 he took part in the Chess Olympiad. More than 50 times he was appointed to the Hungarian national team.

Remarkable in its victories were against world-class players Gligorić ( Olympiad Amsterdam 1954), Korchnoi (Bucharest 1954), Ståhlberg (Bucharest 1954) and Valley ( Kislovodsk 1964).
