Gyula Mándi

Mándi Gyula, Gyula Julius Mandl and Mandel, (born 21 January 1899 in Budapest, Austria - Hungary, † November 27, 1969 ) was a Hungarian football player and football coach.

Club career

Gyula Mándi made ​​his debut in the first team of MTK Budapest in the season 1919/20. The MTK was at that time belonged to the Hungarian league and had players like Imre Schlosser, Alfréd Schaffer, Vilmos Kertész, György Orth and József Braun a number of internationals in its ranks. The young defender was able to slender despite his body with good positional play soon secure a regular place and took the MTK to 1925 six league titles in a row, the team suffered during this period, only nine defeats. National team

His first try in the national team had Mándi in June 1921 against Germany. He quickly became a fixture in choosing where he usually was the defense together with Károly Fogl. 1924 Hungary took part in the Summer Olympic Games, where they could make legitimate hopes for a successful performance. Coaching career

After his playing career Mándi worked at the Hungarian Football Federation. During the time of the Golden Team in the 1950s Mándi actually was nominal coach of the national team, but Gusztáv Sebes subordinate, who held the post of Deputy Minister of Sports and was perceived in the visibility as a team coach, while Mándi and Márton Bukovi acted as his assistant, which the former was responsible in particular for carrying out the training.

1957 Mándi left Hungary and took over in mid-August the post as coach of FC America in Rio de Janeiro where he remained until the end of April 1958. From 1959 to 1963, and a second time in 1964, he oversaw the Israeli national soccer team.
