H. Allen Smith (California)

H. Allen Smith ( born October 8, 1909 in Dixon, Lee County, Illinois, † June 4, 1998 in Glendale, California ) was an American politician. Between 1957 and 1973 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Allen Smith visited the Hollywood High School in Los Angeles and studied at the University of California after that. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Southern California and his 1934 was admitted to the bar he began to work in this profession. From 1935 to 1942 he also worked for the FBI. Later he hit as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1948 and 1956 he sat as a deputy in the California State Assembly. In the years 1960, 1964 and 1968, he participated as a delegate to the Republican National Conventions relevant.

In the congressional elections of 1956, Smith was in the 20th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Carl Hinshaw on January 3, 1957. After seven elections he could pass in Congress until January 3, 1973 eight legislatures. In this time were, among others, the final phase of the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War. 1972 renounced Smith on another candidacy. As a result, it is no longer politically have appeared.
