Habkern
Habkern is a municipality in the Interlaken- Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
In addition to the community of a Reformed congregation exists under that name.
Name
The name Habkern forms from the Old High German word habuh species ( goshawk, sparrow hawks, falcons ) and the suffix - arra ( that means something in large numbers occurs ). Habkern is thus "the place where there are many hawks ".
Geography
Habkern located in the Bernese Oberland on the border of Emmental, which is made of Hohgant. The neighboring communities of north clockwise are starting Schangnau, Fluhli in the canton of Lucerne, Upper Ried on Lake Brienz, Lower bei Interlaken, Interlaken, Beatenberg and Eriz. In the background of the village there is the seven -Hohgant Cave. Above Habkern - Bolsite is the Augstmatthorn.
