The Hachinohe Expressway (Japanese八 戸 自动 车道, Hachinohe jidōshadō ) is a highway in Japan. The highway is a north-south route in the north of the main island of Honshū, the Tōhoku highway at Hachimantai the coastal city of Hachinohe. The highway is 81 km long.

Street Description

North of the city Hachimantai the Hachinohe Expressway splits off from the Tohoku Expressway. The highway has 2 × 2 lanes and runs in the north-east, through a hilly and forested area. As usual in rural Japan, the descents are pretty far apart. Before Kunohe the highway turns to the north, at some distance from the east coast of Honshu. The motorway divides on the south side of the city of Hachinohe one direction leads to the city center and the other direction leads as western bypass of the city and ends at Misawa.

History

The highway was largely opened on 27 November 1986 by Ichinohe to Hachinohe. The connection with the Tōhoku Expressway followed on 7 September 1989. On 28 March 1995, the circumvention of Hachinohe and on July 18, 2002, this opened the last link in Hachinohe and the highway is thus completely opened.

Future

There are plans to build a new toll road from Aomori to Hachinohe, the length of the highway should be about 70 km. Exact data on the length and the name are not yet available.
