Haditha Dam

The Haditha Dam ( Arabic سد حديثة, DMG Sadd hadita ) on the Euphrates is a dam in Iraq. It is located about 200 km northwest of Karbala and also north west of the Wadi Tharthar at Haditha.

The dam, with its 660 - MW hydroelectric power plant is the second largest producer of electricity from hydro power in Iraq after the Mosul Dam. The Haditha hydroelectric power plant has six turbines.

In 2004, conducted by the Gulf Region Division of the United States Army Corps of Engineers repair work on one of the six turbines to reach the full capacity of the system.

The reservoir is named al - Qadisiya, Buhayrat al - Qadisiya or Lake Qadisiyah. The dam, a building from Erdschüttmaterial, was built with the help of Yugoslav ( Hidrogradnja Sarajevo) from 1976 to 1986. He was occupied in the war in Iraq on April 1, 2003 by U.S. Army Rangers and served since then as the headquarters for a Marines unit.
